Thank goodness for long weekends. Sort of.
I always try to be extra productive on the weekends. Especially if they're long. But this time I was not nearly as productive as I had hoped to be.
My husband went on his annual fishing trip with his dad so I spent the weekend with just my girls. It was fun but man, oh man, did I miss my husband. Specifically I missed having an extra pair of hands to help me out with the girls. Whew!
So my uncle was the one who gave me the idea for this. Sort of. His idea was pretty vague.
It involved rolled oats and chocolate chips and that was about it. I'm not totally sure what he was hoping for. I hope that what I came up with is good enough. ;)
I absolutely love my mum's chocolate chip cookie recipe and I will choose it over an other every time. So I decided to use her recipe for this dessert/treat.
You've probably seen those brownie cups people make what seems like all the time right?
I've seen a ton of different versions but I never wanted to try making them because, well, I almost never eat ice cream. Or brownies.

Mother Knows Best
Tomorrow is Mother's Day! And it's a super special day!
Quick side note here: I didn't actually ever expect to experience Mother's Day as a mother just a few short years ago. Call me crazy but I had no plans whatsoever to have children. Unless they were the furry kind.
Fast forward a bit and I met my husband. Fast forward some more and we got married and had our first daughter. Fast forward even more and we now have our second daughter.
It is truly amazing how God can change your mind and your plans in such a short amount of time.
Looking back, I would change nothing about my life. I am truly blessed.

Haitus
Hi folks.
I apologize for no post last week. I was quite distracted preparing for a craft show.
And this coming week is a huge deal to my little family so this post is going to be short and there may not be one at all again next week. We shall see.
I am mostly just writing tonight to explain away my lack of posting last week and to offer a vague excuse for a lack of post next week. Those who know my family are aware of what is going on. I will not say anything more than it is a personal family situation.
Now, to give you all some hope.
I am doing some Pinterest scouring while I try to figure out what my next post could be about.

The Swirly Kind
So I'd like to start off by saying that this post took way longer than I had planned to prepare because a) I forgot to do it yesterday and b) my baby decided that she absolutely did not want to sleep tonight.
Now, moving right along here.
This fun cookie is a favorite of both my husband and my father-in-law. And they are affectionately known as 'the swirly kind' by both of them.
These, my fine folks, are pinwheel cookies!
(I apologize for the lack of pictures at the moment. They are sitting in my fridge overnight waiting to be baked still.)
I originally found a recipe for pinwheel cookies on Pinterest (surprise, surprise!) but found that I really didn't like how they turned out. And I mean I really didn't like them.
The cookie dough was crumbly, was very difficult to roll out and the cookies turned out dry.
Not yummy at all.

Practice Makes Perfect
I know this post is coming late. Again. (Argh!)
But unfortunately I had one of those nights last night where no matter what I did I just could not keep my eyes open. The moment I stopped moving I was darn near snoring. Really made for an unproductive night. It's a miracle I got my dishes washed!
I'm writing about something I've been wanting to improve on for quite a long time.

Moving Right Along
I am so, sorry everyone for not updating last week's blog despite all my promises to do so. I really had hoped to get it done early the next day.
Unfortunately it turns out that two small children can drastically alter the best laid plans.
So all week I fought for time to work on that post with no success. And because of that I really didn't feel too comfortable with starting something new until I could finish what I had started.
I also didn't feel comfortable with adding on to the last post and not producing something new as well.
Which is why I am trying to continue last week's post but make it new somehow.
Here goes nothing...

Happy, Happy Birthdays
This weekend my husband's family and I are celebrating the birthday of a very special lady. My husband's grandma, a very sweet little lady (who actually reminds me of my departed Gran Gran) is turning 80 years young!
And because of course you simply can't have a birthday celebration without some yummy food to eat I offered to bring an assortment of cookies. I decided on just the fan favorites. Classic peanut butter, chocolate chip. That sort.
But I also wanted to do something extra and a little more birthday related.
Because, well, why not?

Dog Days
Once again I'm not doing a post about a cookie or any other kind of treat.
And I feel bad about that. Especially considering that that is what this blog is really supposed to be all about.
However, this is something that I am planning to incorporate into my future plans for Little Miss K's Cookies. So I hope you can all forgive me for going off topic.
This post is actually regarding something that has been very dear to my heart for quite a long time.
I am a huge believer in giving second chances. Sometimes, unfortunately, even when they aren't really deserved.
And I find that too many people are very afraid of giving second chances. Especially to shelter animals.
Until this past summer I had been a volunteer at the Winnipeg Humane Society as a dog walker. I very much miss going there every Saturday morning and seeing those dogs get so excited to be given the attention and love they crave from the staff and volunteers.

So Many Colours!
It's still February and spring seems to be making an early appearance.
This is Manitoba though so the odds are high that winter will still surprise us with a nasty blizzard.
But in the meantime I know I'm not the only one enjoying this incredibly warm weather.
Despite a flu bug laying me low for a couple days, Miss K and I have still managed to get outside quite a bit over the past week.
Now, aside from flowers what comes to mind when you think of spring?
Rainbows!
So many pretty colours lighting up the sky and leading you to that proverbial pot of gold.
And that is what I am trying to accomplish (in a way) with this week's cookie.
More and more often I am striving to be more creative with my baking. I've been daring myself to take a recipe that I find and to make it my own somehow. Or to do something completely new. It's not been easy.
And I know that I am far from the first to do rainbow cookies.
I also know that I have some work to do to really get these right.

The Planning Stages
No new treat this week folks. I do have something in mind already for next week so don't worry.
No, this week's post is about some future plans I have for Little Miss K's Cookies. I hope you don't mind because that means that there won't be any pictures of cookies involved.
Remember how I wrote about doing a couple craft and bake shows a while back? Well, I'm planning on doing more of those. Not for a while yet. I've learned a lot from just those two and it's safe to say that I have a lot of preparing to do in advance.

1 AM Cravings Have Spoken
So this post is now a couple days late. Darn it!
I really would have liked to get this done on Friday. It was, for starters, a very hectic week. Aaaand..... I could not think of a single thing to make. I completely drew a blank. Until last night at around one o'clock in the morning when I felt this crazy need for something with peanut butter in it. That always seems to happen when I'm up super duper late. Figures.
Once again this is not a recipe that I came up with. But that's not much of a surprise at this point is it?
Makes me sad. I need to work on being more creative with my baking I think.
Off track! Sheesh!
I made this recipe for the first time pretty close to a year ago I think. I can't remember for sure. What I do remember is that everyone loved it. And my brother-in-law was slightly addicted to these.

It Just Gets Butter and Butter
Hahaha! Wait what?
No, that's not a typo in the title. This is a really delightful buttery kind of cookie folks.
And I'm already wanting more!
I posted on my Facebook page about making these cookies for this post and that I hadn't found the recipe. I actually did this one almost entirely on my own! I say almost because I had to look up similar recipes to figure out this one.
Let me tell you how I turned a box of cake mix into some super duper yummy treats.

Something Old Something New
Because I somehow completely forgot to do a post last week despite having a reminder come up on my phone and having it written in my calendar I started preparing for this post on Sunday. Yep, that's right. Almost a whole week of prepping for this one. It most likely won't happen again though.
I was going through my recipes and the ones I had saved on Pinterest looking for some inspiration. And then I decided to look up new recipes. Because why not? That's when I got the idea for this post. Why not do a whole bunch of different kinds of cookies? I don't have to write up each recipe myself. No no. I can instead link you to all the recipes for the cookies I baked throughout the week. And of course write a little blurb about each one.
I felt like an absolute genius when I came up with this idea. Mostly because it gave me an excuse to try out a whole bunch of new cookie recipes. Not to mention taste test them. Oh yeah. That's the best part.

A Rose By Any Other Name
A cliched title. Sheesh. I must be running out of ideas.
Haha! Just kidding.
Really though, it was the most fitting title for this treat.
I found a recipe on Pinterest (no surprise there is there?) and thought I would try it out. That was way back in the summer. And while it turned out not too bad I wasn't really too happy with it.
Here's a link to the original recipe: http://therecipecritic.com/2014/08/cinnamon-roll-breadtwists/
My resulting treat was much too thick and dry. I had followed the recipe to a tee and I even went so far as to add a little extra of the butter, sugar and cinnamon in the hopes they would turn out a little extra gooey. No such luck. And while I found the recipe to be a very good one I was not satisfied. Thankfully no one else complained. At least not that I can remember. Haha!

A New Year's Twist
Thanks to a post-Christmas flu bug this first post of the new year is being done later than I had planned. Sorry folks!
Each new year brings a lot of promise and excitement with it. And of course a chance for a fresh start. It can be intimidating. Like a lot of folks I made some new year's resolutions. Some are pretty typical (like wanting to be healthier) and some are more personal. One resolution I made revolves around Little Miss K's Cookies. It's both simple and complicated. The complicated part is more of an in-depth explanation of the simple part. And it would probably end up taking up this whole post. So let's not do that and I'll just stick with the simple part so we can move along to the main attraction.
The resolution is this: Work to improve and build on what I've already begun with Little Miss K's Cookies.
